                        CONVERSATIONS THAT MATTER 2024

"The Case of 'Father Tim'" (not his real name) is an account of a real situation dealing with burnout, recognition of the factors which contribute to it, identifying it in one’s own life, and responding with enhanced awareness and commitment to self-care.

Burnout
doesn't simply mean just being overworked and tired, it means "feeling like I've lost the spark in the status-quo of my life" - no matter where in life you might find yourself. It can manifest itself in a number of ways: feeling intensely bored; detachment from community members, community life, and community events; isolation and detachment from most people (including close friends) and social events. By recognizing the "triggers" in our life which can lead to these and other negative behaviors - such as abuses of alcohol, substances or people; or harsh judgments, anger and rage directed towards others - we can make our own lives and the lives of those around us much better, much happier, and much healthier.

The presentation in the videos includes a narration of “Father Tim’s” story along with discussion questions and didactics (learnings). While the video portion of "Father Tim's story" is the same for each presentation, the questions and discussion points have been crafted according to the needs of three key audiences:

  • Men in formation
  • Men currently living and/or working in an apostolic commitment
  • Men living in a community for the retired
